Late Gamer Plays God Of War

A Review From Hidai Moya

This is a good game, but it’s not without its frustrations. For a start it’s RPG upgrade system doesn’t belong here, it’s too overbearing for a linear game. I was also a bit annoyed by it’s not really open world deisgn that makes you revisit the same places over again, present convoluted barriers to prevent you from travelling, & a “when are we going to get to the fireworks factory” approach to Odin. It’s unquestionable success is in it’s orgasmically savage combat. Taking down giant ogres & trolls with a magical axe is so damn satisfying it’s a fresh new life blood gaming really needed. And even as someone who hasn’t played the previous GoW games the emotional evolution of Kratos with his son was very very palpable. Not exactly the GOTY game I thought it would be but for the combat alone I’m glad I played it. Grade B+

Filmed with 16mm film, The House Of The Devil (2009) is Ti West’s artistic & nostalgic love letter to the subtle horror flicks of the 80’s. Knowing that something bad is brewing for Samantha Hughes, but not knowing what it is, is excellent slow-burn terror.
