Late Gamer Plays A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Review From Hidai Moya

This is easily the most overrated game of 2019. Its graphics engine & visual palette are beautiful but it is in service of a story & mechanics that are lesser versions of better games that preceded it.
In the vein of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, God of War, & The Last of Us, this is yet another story set in an apocalyptic landscape where a de facto parental figure has to protect a young child from evil forces that want to kidnap it.
The writing is mediocre, it just assumes that you care because they are in danger but makes no effort to expand on any character development. In fact all of its characters feel very one dimensional.
Even with a delightfully disgusting climatic showdown the overall game play is not rewarding.
It tries to make you think there is more than meets the eye to its play style but it is all so superficial in the end.
